Ants are a public health pest, they can transport bacteria and viruses whilst foraging for food in your kitchen.
The most common ant problem is when they enter customers homes looking/foraging for food, the nest may be in the garden or within the fabric of the house, the ants then enter the house through minute entrance points and are voracious feeders, finding food in most situations, occasionaly even inside dishwashers where they start to clean up last nights dinner!
They have the ability tocommunicate the location of food supplies to other workers within the nest and before long there are hundreds if not thousands of ants feeding or on route to the food in very regimental and organised long lines.
Bees are not generally considered to be a pest, they are one of, if not THE most important insects on the planet.
Honey bees polinate a massive amount of the food and produce we use and eat everyday in every country in the world, without them we would be in very serious trouble indeed.
Honey bees are also having a tough time themselves with disease and there numbers are low.
Higher than in previous years but all that can be done to protect them should be considered.
Having said that, there are occasions when bees can become troublesome and pose a threat not only to your personal safety but also to damageing your home.
When your dog or cat gets fleas a male and female flea will inject your pet with a tiny pain killer and blood thinner and then push a probe into your pets skin and gorge on their blood, once fed this sets off a hormone in the flea and sets off the breeding cycle, the two Fleas then mate and the male dies, the female lays her eggs and also dies.
So an adult flea with the pet local will hatch, jump on the pet, feed, breed and die within 48 hours!
This means that flea treatments on dogs and cats fur are killing fleas that would be dead within 48 hours anyway!
We have 3 main types of mouse in this area, The House Mouse Mus musculus, The Yellow Breasted Field Mouse Apodemus witherbyi and the Wood Mouse Apodemus sylvaticus we will not describe each one separately albeit for the descriptions as treatments are pretty much the same and they are all as common as each other.
The House Mouse is smaller than the other 2 and grey in appearance, The Field mouse is light brown with a yellow or cream belly and is mid-sized between the other two.
The Wood mouse is the larger of the three and a darker brown colour with a paler belly, people often describe this one as looking like Mickey Mouse with his bulging eyes and sticky up ears All three are found in all locations but the House Mouse would be the most common by far in towns and cities.
